About Thornhill
Thornhill's Private Capital practice has been at the heart of the firm for decades, advising managers, sponsors and investors across the full life cycle of a fund and its underlying investments. Our Knowledge Lawyers play a central role in maintaining the technical depth and consistency of advice across our London, New York and Hong Kong offices.
About the Role
We are looking for a Knowledge Lawyer to support Thornhill's Private Capital practice across our three offices, maintaining precedents, tracking regulatory developments, and supporting the training and technical development of the wider team. This is a technically demanding role suited to an experienced private funds lawyer who wants to step back from day-to-day transaction execution while remaining close to the substance of the practice, playing a critical role in ensuring the quality and consistency of the advice the practice delivers globally.
Responsibilities
Maintain and develop the Private Capital practice's precedent bank and internal know-how resources across all three offices
Monitor and report on regulatory and market developments affecting private capital clients, including changes to fund regulation across relevant jurisdictions
Deliver internal training sessions on technical and market developments to associates and partners across the practice
Support partners on complex or novel legal points arising on live matters, acting as a technical resource for the wider team
Contribute to client-facing thought leadership content, including Insights articles and market updates
Liaise with external bodies, including industry associations and regulatory consultations, on behalf of the practice
Support the design and delivery of training for trainees and junior associates rotating through the Private Capital practice
Requirements
Qualified lawyer with substantial experience in private funds or private equity, gained either in private practice or in an equivalent in-house or regulatory role
Strong technical knowledge of fund structuring, regulatory frameworks and market practice across multiple jurisdictions
Excellent written communication skills, with demonstrable experience producing high-quality client-facing materials
Genuine interest in training and knowledge-sharing, with prior experience delivering training to lawyers at varying levels of seniority
Strong organisational skills, given the role's responsibility for maintaining resources used across three offices
What We Offer
A technically rich role at the centre of the firm's Private Capital practice, direct influence over how the practice develops its expertise and training, and the opportunity to shape the firm's thinking on emerging market and regulatory developments.
