Leadership is forged in
difficult conversations
Most leaders learn to give hard feedback by getting it wrong first, in front of their team. Tough Tongue AI gives managers a private space to practice the moments that define their leadership.

How it works
Practice pre-built leadership scenarios
Choose from performance reviews, conflict resolution, managing up, change communication, and executive presence simulations. Each scenario features a realistic AI stakeholder with personality and pushback style tuned to the leadership challenge.
Explore Scenario Library
Build custom simulations in Scenario Studio
Describe the situation and the stakeholder the leader needs to handle. Add your org's values, competency frameworks, and actual case examples via the knowledge base. Custom scenarios typically take 15 to 30 minutes to build and deploy.
Track leader progress with analytics
Every session is scored and logged. The AI remembers each leader's patterns across sessions, building a personalized coaching profile. See org-wide trends, drill into individual progress, and export data as CSV for your LMS or talent review process.

Designed for every stage of leadership
New managers
The jump from individual contributor to manager is the hardest transition in any career. Practice the first performance review, the first conflict, and the first 'no' before the stakes are real.
Mid-level leaders
Managing up, influencing without authority, and navigating org politics. Simulate the stakeholder conversations that stall careers when handled poorly.
Senior executives
Board presentations, organizational change, and executive presence under pressure. Practice staying composed and decisive when the room is pushing back.
Simulate the conversations leaders avoid
Named scenarios your managers can open today. In a roleplay the AI plays the employee or stakeholder and pushes back; in a coaching session it helps you plan the conversation first.
Derek: addressing declining performance
Derek has been missing deadlines and opens with "I don't think I've missed that many." He asks for specific examples, concedes only when you show evidence, and admits he is overloaded once you ask the right question.
Practice this scenarioTravis: re-engaging a disheartened veteran
A long-tenured employee who checked out after a harsh review. Short answers at first. He opens up only when you acknowledge what the last review did to him.
Practice this scenarioJasmine: managing promotion disappointment
A top performer who expected a promotion that is not coming. She wants to know who decided and what held her back, and calls budget reasons moving the goalposts.
Practice this scenarioSarah Mitchell: pay equity concern
Your account executive found out a newer colleague earns $12,000 more for the same role. Stay out of peer salary data, explain how pay bands work, and commit to a review with a date.
Practice this scenarioWorking with a micromanaging boss
An AI executive coach helps you plan the conversation with your manager, set boundaries without sounding defensive, and rehearse the opening line out loud.
Practice this scenarioProject scope showdown
A senior stakeholder wants features outside the agreed scope, with a business case to back it. Protect the timeline without simply saying no.
Practice this scenarioGiving feedback to peers
Structure feedback for a peer you do not manage, then say it out loud and hear how it lands before the real conversation.
Practice this scenarioLayoff notification
Add your severance terms and HR-approved talking points in Scenario Studio. The AI plays the employee hearing the news, including shock, anger, and questions about references and timing.
Open Scenario StudioWhat a manager sees after the conversation
Every session ends with a report card. Each skill in the rubric gets a weight, a score out of 10, and a note that points to what the manager actually said. The overall score is the weighted sum, so a manager who listens well but commits to nothing still scores low on the stage that matters.
You write the rubric in plain language, from your competency model or leadership framework. Rules can cap a score: in the Sarah Mitchell scenario, confirming a colleague's salary caps the explanation stage at 3, and any hint of retaliation caps the listening stage at 3, however well the rest went.
Managers retry the same conversation, and the AI remembers what they struggled with last time. Admins see every score by manager and by scenario.

Rolling it out to a management team
Fifty new team leads doing four 15-minute sessions a month use about 3,000 minutes. That fits the Momentum plan: $999 a month for 13,000 pooled minutes and 50 seats, about $20 per manager.
Seats and pooled minutes
Business covers 15 seats with 2,990 minutes a month for $299. Growth covers 25 seats, Momentum 50, and Enterprise removes the seat cap. Minutes are pooled across the team and unused minutes roll over.
Bulk invites
Admins invite managers in bulk by CSV. Members sign in and start practicing without any payment setup of their own.
Analytics by leader and scenario
Every session is scored and logged. See progress by manager and by scenario in one dashboard, and export results as CSV for your LMS or talent review.
Courses and cohorts
Sequence scenarios alongside your videos, readings, and human coaching sessions, so a cohort moves through the program in order.
Where practice happens
In the browser, inside a Google Meet or Zoom call, or over the phone. Managers rehearse in the same tools they use for the real conversation.
Security and branding
Enterprise adds SOC 2, HIPAA, zero data retention, and a white-label experience on your own subdomain, with role-based access for admins and coaches.

Frequently asked questions
How does the AI give feedback on leadership style, not just words?
The AI uses your webcam to observe facial expressions, body language, and nonverbal signals, and your microphone to analyze tone, pacing, and hesitation patterns. After each session you see feedback on how you come across, not just what you said. This matters because leadership impact is 55% nonverbal.
Can I build simulations specific to our org's leadership challenges?
Yes. Use Scenario Studio to create custom simulations. Describe the situation and the stakeholder the leader needs to handle. Add your org's values, competency frameworks, and actual case examples via the knowledge base. Custom scenarios typically take 15 to 30 minutes to build.
How do I integrate this into an existing leadership development program?
Use Courses to sequence AI scenarios alongside your existing video content, reading materials, and human coaching sessions. The AI handles the practice volume; your human coaches focus on insight and edge cases. Members track their own progress, and admins see org-wide patterns.
How does memory improve leadership coaching over time?
Each session is remembered. If a leader consistently avoids direct feedback conversations, the AI will bring that up the next time they practice. Over multiple sessions, the AI builds a personalized profile and adjusts difficulty, focus areas, and coaching style accordingly.
What types of leadership conversations can be simulated?
Performance reviews, difficult feedback, pay and promotion conversations, layoffs, managing up, conflict between team members, change communication, and executive presence with a skeptical board. The library has ready-made scenarios such as Derek (declining performance), Jasmine (promotion disappointment), and Sarah Mitchell (pay equity), and Scenario Studio builds any other conversation your leaders face.
Can managers practice a layoff conversation?
Yes. Layoff conversations depend on your severance terms, legal guidance, and the message HR has approved, so they are built in Scenario Studio rather than taken off the shelf. Describe the role, the news, and the talking points, and the AI plays the employee hearing it, with shock, anger, and questions about severance, references, and timing. The report card then scores the manager against your own rubric.
What does it cost to give 50 new managers AI roleplay practice?
Fifty managers doing four 15-minute sessions a month use about 3,000 minutes. That fits the Momentum plan at $999 a month, which includes 13,000 pooled minutes and 50 seats, so about $20 per manager per month, and unused minutes roll over. Smaller teams start on Business at $299 a month for 15 seats and 2,990 minutes. Enterprise removes the seat cap and bills usage at $0.07 a minute.
How does Tough Tongue AI compare with other leadership roleplay platforms?
Most leadership roleplay tools run practice in their own app and quote team pricing through sales. Tough Tongue AI runs the same scenario on the web, inside Google Meet or Zoom, or over the phone, lets L&D teams build scenarios themselves in Scenario Studio, scores every session against a weighted rubric you write, and publishes team pricing with a free trial. The comparison table on this page lists how Yoodli, Mursion, Attensi, Outdoo, and others handle the same questions.
