Richard advises on private and public M&A, including cross-border transactions for corporate and private capital clients. He joined Thornhill in 2007 and was made partner in 2015, and has advised on several of the firm's largest public takeovers, including the board of a listed industrials group on a recommended public takeover and the proposed sale of a banking group's retail subsidiary to a listed acquirer, as well as a strategic acquirer on its acquisition of a competitor's regional business.

He has particular experience in the industrials and financial services sectors, and is often instructed on transactions requiring close coordination between corporate, competition and regulatory specialists, and is a regular adviser to boards on shareholder engagement and takeover defence strategy.

Richard holds an LL.B. from the University of Nottingham and was admitted in England and Wales in 2009. He is a member of the Law Society of England and Wales and the City of London Law Society's Company Law Committee.
